Late fall 2019 Skylum will release Luminar 4 and little by little they release more new features. Last month they announced the addition of the Sky Replacement filter, an easy way to change the sky in your photograph. Today they announced the AI Structure filter, a smart way to add more structure in your photo.
What is the AI Structure filter?
As you can see in the name of the filter this new filter is all about structure. If you use Luminar 3 already you probably used the Structure filter already, a filter with a similar name. The new filter adds AI in the name that means Artificial Intelligence. In other words, this new AI Structure filter is much smarter. Based on the analysis of hundreds of thousands of photos it knows where to add structure and where not to add structure.
Structure and AI Stucture compared
One of the disadvantages of the old Structure filter is it tries to apply structure everywhere. Even in parts of the photo where you can’t find structure at all, like a blue sky. The result is a noisy blue sky and that is not what we as photographers like. You want to add structure in places WITH structure like grass or trees. This is exactly what the new AI Structure filter does. It recognizes the right parts to add more structure. This helps photographers a lot and applying masks is no longer needed. In the video below we show you the difference between the Structure and AI Structure filters.
